Grenada, fondly known as the “Spice Isle” of the Caribbean, is a stunning destination celebrated for its fragrant nutmeg and lush, mountainous landscapes. Beneath its tropical charm, this small island nation embodies a resilient spirit and a vibrant, rich culture.
In September, I had the privilege of traveling with my fellow RAD-AID volunteers—Diana, Jyotsna, Jean, and Stacey—for a two-week assignment in Grenada. Our collaboration with imaging technologists at St. George’s General Hospital and midwives in Grenada and Carriacou was incredibly rewarding. Through our teamwork, we were able to enhance patient care by sharing ultrasound knowledge and skills, empowering both the imaging staff and midwives with valuable sonography expertise that will benefit their communities.
Coming from Canada, where healthcare resources are abundant and we experience relatively fewer natural disasters, I felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude and humility as I witnessed the challenging conditions in Carriacou, an island still struggling to recover from Hurricane Beryl. This experience in Grenada left a deep impression on me, showing the unwavering strength of the people, the community and the dedication of the Grenadian healthcare professionals creating unforgettable moments of learning and service.
