JOB TITLE: Sonographer
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Minimal
RESPONSIBILITY STATEMENT:
To produce diagnostic images of optimum quality.
The objective is to provide quality service with an emphasis
on optimum patient care in an ethical and professional
manner, as prescribed by our governing bodies.
License and registration:
CMRITO registered mandatory for all Ultrasound technologist
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Technical
- Perform only examinations, which are referred by physicians/clients
- Consult with referring physician or radiologists any questions or uncertainties with respect to the requested examination(s)
- Perform views/examinations, as specified by Quality Advisor
- Discuss with the reading radiologist any concerns positive findings which could be critical
- Make sure previous exams/reports are obtained for comparison, when warranted.
- Assemble requisitions, worksheets, and previous reports for scanning for interpretation
- Proofread transcribed reports when necessary
- Document Sonographer’s findings and clinical history on all patients
- Ensure confidentiality of patient information
- Follow CX guidelines on all aspects of operation, as they mimic the IHF guidelines
Customer Service/Problem Solving
- Ensure that duties and responsibilities are prioritized and handled with accuracy and speed to effectively meet clients’ needs
- Promote a positive image of themselves and CX
- Interact with internal and external clients in a professional manner
- Assume responsibility for handling requests and inquiries
- Utilize effective problem solving techniques
- Maintain professional appearance and conduct
Communication/Teamwork
- Develop and maintain effective lines of communication with patients, clients, radiologists, fellow staff members, members of the management team and other support staff
- Accept & provide constructive feedback
- Attend & participate in team meetings
- Remain current with updates and memos; implement changes accordingly
Quality Assurance/Initiative
- Follow IHF guidelines as outlined in Policy & Procedure manual
- Ensure that a regular preventative maintenance schedule is followed
- Rotate stock and notify if stock is depleted
- Ongoing continuing education
- Continuously seek improved methodology
Safety
- Comply with all relevant safety regulations (i.e. – CPR, WHMIS, Work place safety, AODA, infection control, CX safety manual)
- Keep current with certifications, where appropriate (WHMIS, first aid, etc.)
- Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work environment
- Complete occurrence/incidents report(s), as required
- Safe lifting & handling procedures are required
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Professional Registration
- Current registration with CMRITO mandatory to work.
. Sonography Canada and ARDMS license will be good if they have
Special skills
- Ability to work independently and within the team environment
- Ability to recognize areas of concern and resolve or refer them, as deemed necessary
- Ability to prioritize workload
- Ability to handle stress inherent with time constraints, language barriers, and diversification of job function.
