Overview
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Sonographer to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for performing high-quality ultrasound examinations, ensuring patient comfort, and providing accurate diagnostic information to physicians. This role requires a strong understanding of medical terminology and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Perform accurate and thorough ultrasound studies to aid in the diagnosis of assistive reproduction, gynecology, and obstetrical care
  • Utilize the knowledge, skills, and judgement necessary to perform a high-quality diagnostic ultrasound exam, while acquiring and analyzing data to provide a professional account of sonographic findings for the reporting physician
  • Ensure all infection prevention and control practices are followed and adhered to
  • Support Administrative and Ultrasound staff in day-to-day department workflow
  • Disinfection and reprocessing of ultrasound equipment according to company/industry standards
  • Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required
  • Participates in and advocates for continuous quality improvement initiatives within the department
  • Report all safety concerns to Ultrasound Supervisor and/or Office Manager
  • Responsible for communication to PACS provider and Machine Manufacturer in the event of machine issues or damage
  • Ensure that equipment is used correctly and maintained properly
  • Continual update and maintenance of interesting cases teaching file
  • Comply with quality assurance procedures
  • Adhere to all standards of quality assurance and control, scope of practice, policies and protocol, code of conduct, and code of ethics set forth by CPSO, Sonography Canada, CMRITO, and Tripod Fertility
  • Maintenance of active certification and required continuing education credits with CMRITO, Sonography Canada, and/or ARDMS
  • Conduct ultrasound examinations as ordered by physicians, including abdominal, pelvic, obstetric scans
  • Prepare patients for procedures by explaining the process and ensuring their comfort throughout the examination.
  • Utilize ultrasound equipment effectively to capture high-resolution images for diagnostic purposes.
  • Maintain accurate records of patient information, examination results, and any relevant observations.
  • Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to discuss findings and contribute to patient care decisions.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Stay updated on advancements in ultrasound technology and techniques.

Experience

  • A degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or a related field is required.
  • Certification from an accredited organization (e.g., ARDMS) is preferred.
  • Previous experience in a clinical setting performing ultrasound examinations is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in medical terminology is essential for effective communication within the healthcare team.

  • Minimum 2 years of scanning experience, with extensive experience in gynecology, follicular monitoring, and obstetrics
  • Knowledge of and experience in imaging nuchal translucency, obstetrics doppler, 2nd and 3rd trimester obstetrical scanning, and sonohysterography
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • PACS and EMR experience Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Documentation skills
  • Knowledge of infection prevention and control practices and performing sanitary and disinfection procedures before and after each procedure
  • Understanding of IHF/CPSO guidelines and standards

License/Certification Requirements:

  • Successful completion of a recognized and accredited ultrasonography program
  • Must hold or is in the process of obtaining certification in Nuchal Translucency with an active license through Fetal Medicine Foundation
  • Current certification and registration as a Canadian Registered General Sonographer (CRGS) with Sonography Canada or Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) with ARDMS
  • Must be registered as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (DMS) with CMRITO and in good standing with CMRITO, Sonography Canada, and/or ARDMS
  • Hold personal Professional Liability Insurance (PLI) as required by CMRITO

Other Abilities Requirements:

  • Able to work independently and take on additional responsibilities and duties as required by the department and/or Medical Director
